Osseointegration with INTREPED®
Midfoot Fusion, Simplified
Less invasive, less complex, and less prominent, INTREPED® is a proven solution to treat midfoot arthritis.
What Is INTREPED®?
INTREPED® is a titanium implant that offers an intuitive, minimally invasive surgical intervention to treat chronic midfoot arthritis without deformity.
The low-profile implant is designed to reduce surgical complexity and improve patient recovery while addressing the limitations of traditional hardware.
The technology allows for increased efficiency in the OR, decreased trauma to the surrounding tissue, and confidence in the fusion outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions
Auxano® Medical has provided this information as an educational resource tool. This is not intended as a substitute for professional medical care or for the Directions for Use.
What are the use cases for INTREPED®?
Non-deformity arthritic cases, including TMT joint fusion and NC joint fusion. The simple and effective surgical technique, gap filling, and bone ingrowth properties also make INTREPED® a useful tool in revision cases of prior midfoot non-unions.
Is it easy to learn and adopt?
The intuitive technique is accessible to foot/ankle surgeons. While standard interventions may take experienced surgeons up to 30 minutes with extensive joint prep, INTREPED® could expedite midfoot fusion procedure to 5 to 10 minutes on average, per joint per implant.
What is the surgical technique?
The technique requires seven steps:
- Access TMT or NC joint dorsally.
- Target interjoint space with Kirschner wire (K-wire).
- Determine implant size (diameters 6-12 millimeters, lengths 10-20 millimeters).
- Drill over K-wire (drill stop optional).
- Tap (K-wire optional).
- Place implant.
- Pack implant with autograft or other biologic material.

What are the sizing options?

What comes in the INTREPED® tray?
The INTREPED® system is supplied non-sterile and comes in a steam-sterilizable tray. It contains K-wires, depth gauge, sizers, drills, drill stops, taps, drivers, spanner drive, and handle.
How does it compare to other solutions?
The unique design allows smaller incisions and better outcomes than traditional hardware. INTREPED® overcomes common limitations of other midfoot interventions, including:
- Bone dowels, which have limited initial stability, require supplemental fixation, and are known for complications
- Injections, which are short-term solutions and ineffective over time
- Plating, which requires extensive joint prep and has prominent hardware and large exposure
- Screws, which are a technically challenging solution and require extensive joint prep
- Staples, which can sit prominent, have moderate exposure and require extensive joint prep
What are the contraindications for INTREPED®?
Contraindications for INTREPED® include:
- Active or suspected infection, sepsis, and osteomyelitis.
- Compromised immune status.
- Conditions that may limit bone healing, such as blood supply limitations and previous infections.
- Insufficient quantity or quality of bone to permit stabilization of the fusion complex.
- Malignant primary or metastatic tumors that preclude adequate bone support.
- Patient factors that restrict their ability or willingness to follow postoperative instructions.
- Suspected or documented foreign body sensitivity or intolerance.
- Skin atrophy, which poses an increased risk of wound healing problems and infection.
